Biographical Sketch
Peter R Grant is an associate professor at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies. His research involves human-in-the-loop vehicle simulation. The goal of the research is to improve both training and engineering simulators and to develop an understanding of the fidelity requirements of these simulators as a function of the vehicle and the task. Dr Grant has Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manitoba and an MASc in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Toronto. He received his Doctor of Philosophy in 1996 from the University of Toronto, developing an expert system for tuning the motion of flight simulators. In 1995, prior to completing his PhD, Dr Grant joined the Center for Computer Aided Design at the University of Iowa where he did driving simulation research until 1998. In 1998 Dr Grant joined the Scientific Research Laboratory at Ford Motor company in Dearborn Michigan. Dr Grant was a principle designer of VIRTTEX, Ford Motor company's advanced driving simulator, in addition he worked on a number of different simulation projects in both the vehicle dynamics and vehicle safety departments. Dr Grant joined UTIAS in September 2002.
