Experimental Engines Laboratory

University of toronto institute for aerospace studies

Welcome to the Experimental Engines Laboratory at the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies. Our lab conducts research into fundamental and applied thermo-fluids (flow and combustion) as pertaining to aerospace propulsion and large-scale power generation engines.

We are motivated by the simultaneous demand for ever improving performance, reliability, environmental impact, and sustainability of the transportation and energy system.

The mission of the Experimental Engines Lab is to
  1. Provide rigorous and causal insight into applied thermo-fluidic processes, leading to novel or improved engine designs.
  2. Generate a scientific understanding of turbulent combustion, enabling predictive simulation of engine systems.
  3. Advance the state-of-the-art in laser and optical measurement techniques.
  4. Train students to be world-class scientists and engineers.
