Ben Luymes (MASc Candidate)Ben graduated from
the Engineering Physics program with a specialization in Mechanical
Engineering at Queen’s University in 2016. His research is in
collaboration with the GE Global Research Center, and focuses on the
flow field in high-pressure, high-speed turbomachinery. Using PIV,
various regions of interest are being examined to study the development
of flow phenomena such as the evolution of periodic wakes caused by an
upstream blade row. The goal of this research is to characterize the
causes of efficiency losses and to determine the influence of
geometrical and operational parameters in these machines for future
improvement.
