Unsteady Vortex Dynamics in Delta Wings

Wing planforms in the form of a triangle are often referred to as delta wings. These are employed in a variety of aerospace vehicles, such as in micro air vehicles (MAVs) and unmanned combat air vehicles (UCAVs). This project investigates the unsteady aspects of the flow over non-slender rigid delta wings under stationary as well as maneuvaring conditions with the aim of furthering our knowledge of effectively controlling severe aerodyanmic and stability issues. V3V (Volumetric 3-Component Velocimetry) will be used to obtain, for the first time, a sequence of the 3-dimensional structure of the flow patterns quantitatively.
